The net extrusion of calcium and its temporal relation to the accumulation of potassium in slices of rat liver and of Morris hepatomata 5123tc and 3924A.

چکیده
slices showed an extrusion of 5 mmoles calcium per kg dry weight that was completed after 6 min, while potassium accumulation showed a lag period of about 15 min. Similar results were obtained from livers of rats of different strains and from livers of goose, opossum, and baboon. Slices of 5123tc extruded 16 mmoles calcium per kg dry weight during about 10 min, the initial rate being about five times that seen in liver; potassium accumulation was first observed after a delay of 6 min. Slices of 3924A extruded similar amounts of calcium at an initial rate similar to that of slices of 5123tc, but the final level of calcium remained higher; this is attributed to retention of calcium in micronecrotic areas of the slices of 3924A. This tumor also showed a lag period before potassium accumulation, although of only a 3-min duration. The calcium-transporting activity of the tumors is discussed in relation to their calcium content in vivo and to the possible effects of intracellular calcium in controlling cellular permeability to potassium.

The metabolism-dependent maintenance of cell volume and ultrastructure in slices of Morris hepatoma 3924A.
The changes in water and electrolyte content of slices of Morris hepatoma 3924A induced by various conditions of incubation have been compared with the ultrastructural appearance of the tissue. Incubation at 1 degrees led to an increase of water, Na+, and Cl- content and to a loss of K+. There was simultaneous increase in size of the cells and intercellular spaces, loss of junctional complexes,...
متن کاملEffects of divalent cations on K+ transport in rat liver and Morris hepatoma 5123tc.
SUMMARY Slices of normal rat liver and of liver and tumor from rats with subcutaneously implanted Morris hepatoma 5123tc were cooled to induce loss of K+, and net uptake of K+ was studied during subsequent incubation at 37°C. Initial K+ concentra tion per unit of dry weight was about 50% higher in the hepa toma than in normal or host liver. Cooling induced an equal loss of K+ from all three ti...
متن کاملEffects of potassium on temporal growth of root and shoot of wheat and its uptake in different soils
In a pot culture experiment, the root length density, potassium concentration in crop, and total K uptake by wheat (Triticum aestivum var. HD 2285) at different growth stages (CRIS-Crown Root Initiation Stage, MTS-Maximum Tillering Stage, FLS-Flag Leaf Stage and DFS-Dough Formation Stage) were determined. Wheat crop was grown in 72 pots containing 4.5 kg of three types of soils, namely Alfisol,...
متن کاملImatinib metabolism and disposition in isolated rat perfused liver
Imatinib is an orally administered tyrosine kinase inhibitor which inhibits the Bcr-Abl protein-tyrosine kinase with high selectivity. Imatinib is rapidly absorbed from the gut, after oral intake and has an almost absolute bioavailability of 98%. The metabolism of imatinib is mediated by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoenzymes in the liver and gut wall. CGP74588 is a major active metabolite of ima...
متن کاملDietary intake of calcium, magnesium and potassium in relation to blood pressure: Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study
Introduction: In spite of many studies about the association of diet with blood pressure, yet the relationship between micronutrients and blood pressure remains obscure. This study aimed at evaluating the dietary intake of calcium, magnesium and potassium in relation to blood pressure. Materials and Methods: Trained interviewers collected dietary data on 1470 participants of Tehran Lipid and Gl...
